Islands in a garden of dreams
I walk the garden of a friends
And amaze at how well thrives
A suburban backyard desert
In the late hours of day before sunset
Where with long shadows and chirping birds
I fancy myself a winged creature in a past life
A fairy or humingbird
Flitting from frond to island frond
Of serpintine squash archipelago ferns
Drinking the nectar from flower chalices
As I tour this simple magical premise
