Road kill prayer

I smelled your death
Before your body found
Lying on the ground
Blood red on black asphalt
I pray your death was quick
And not in vain
That in your passing
Another's life is blessed
May the desperate mother
A coyote with kids
Find nourishment in your flesh
To return to cubs
Breasts swollen with milk
May the hungry father
An owl with chicks in nest
Find sustenance in your flesh
To return to brood with open beaks
Who find their fill at last
I smelled your death
Before your body found
Lying on the ground
Blood red on black asphalt
I pray your death was quick
And not in vain
That in your passing
Another's life does gain
